Christian Fennesz is an artist who I'm sure needs little or no introduction. Since the runaway success of his 'Endless Summer' album he has gone from strength to strength with a following that defies the musical field in which he operates. Actionresult edit int id formcollection collection agencies. Hell, as if producing for David Sylvian wasn't odd enough he even ended up on the last Sparklehorse album. This rather lengthily titled album came out back in 1999 when he was merely a name on the lips of Wire reviewers and antisocial crate fondlers, but was a startling sign that something truly amazing was happening over in Vienna (besides great baking). Kingdoms ccg download for mac. Using a laptop and a guitar Fennesz conjured up cracking distorted passages of sound, somewhere in between the ear-piercing noise of the Mego label (who Fennesz also managed to notch up releases on) and the glorious harmonic drones more readily associated with Touch. However this was not only electronic music, what Fennesz had done was blend these sounds with the distorted guitar rock he had grown up on and chanced upon a sound that owed as much to My Bloody Valentine as to Hecker. Picture the sceene:A cool blue ocean stretches before you, contrasted only by the break of the golden sand and the burning red of the setting sun.
If you're already there then you're chilled out enough. If not you need this CD.
At first it all seems a bit too much to take in. There don't really seem to be any rhyme nor reason to the order of the tracks and you wonder where the music is trying to take you. After a while you stop listening so intently and then the real beauty of it hits you. You don't need to listen to it. You just lie back and let it all wash over you. Lie back and take it all in. Don't worry about where the music is taking you - just be happy to go there.
You'll need to listen to the CD a few times before you can start to appreciate the really mellow vibes Fenesz is trying to give us. But persevere and your reward will be true contentment.
What else is there to say.? Is it anything new.? No, certainly not. Is it that much better than a lot of similar CDs (and lets face it theres plenty of similar ones out there).? Again probably not.
Its hard to say what it is that makes this so enjoyable. It seems pretty run of the mill stuff and you'll happily listen to the whole CD and forget it was ever on. Its just a nice ambient ride through some of the more bizzare thinking of Finnesz.
The only advice I can give is listen to it. You'll like it but you might not know why.
